Leading Wild Guardianship Programme

Guardianship Programme

To ensure long-term carbon sequestration, be a part of our nationwide commitment to nurturing our land, the Leading Wild way.

With various options available regarding how your land would be healed, we work hand-in-hand with farmers, conservation organisations and environmental groups to give your company a transparent, tangible and holistic way to take guardianship and protect our soil and our species.

Reporting and monitoring in a clear, visual and coherent way is key.

In order to do this, we will be using state of the art technology to measure KPIs within the field of regenerative agriculture that will demonstrate the positive impacts occurring above and below the surface.

Our philosophy extends hectares beyond doing our bit for our planet, but also for our people.

By working with our Leading Wild Guardianship Programme, you can also extend your reach to those needing a helping hand.

Together, with a range of charities and social enterprises, we are opening-up the benefits of nature, offering an accessible route into the agricultural industry and putting wellbeing and mental health at the heart of personal development.

To be sustainable is no longer enough. We need to regenerate, enrich and diversify.

Digging a little deeper, we can whole-heartedly make a difference for our soul and our soil.

OPTIONS FOR LAND USE:

  • Organic growing

  • Woodland creation

  • Natural regeneration

  • Targeted biodiversity management

  • Mixed use (for example community orchard / client orchard & wild)

  • Wetland creation

  • Public access

What will you do with your space?

Various combinations of the above can be achieved to suit your needs, for example you may want natural regeneration but with a mixed traditional orchard space incorporating a gathering area with seating and a fire pit.

Starting from an annual rate of £450 per acre for natural regeneration

Natural regeneration is argued by some to be the ultimate way to restore our planet; allowing nature to restore her natural complexity without interference. It allows the custodian to view nature at work, reclaiming land as wildlife return. The speed at which this can happen is remarkable. There is also a growing body of opinion that this could be one of the most valuable ways of restoring biodiversity and sequestering carbon.

While a farmer could simply ‘let go’ of a field post-harvest, in reality, more work is involved to prepare the land for regeneration in order to maximise the benefits for our planet and our people.

So where would your investment go and how would it be used?

  • If the previous crop was a seed crop  (oilseed rape, for example), its large seed bank will dominate the field for the first few years. This has to be physically destroyed in year one to allow nature       a speedier return.

  • The field may benefit from being hedged, fenced & gated to protect ground nesting birds from being disturbed by dogs and  to limit visits from the public who can   be destructive.

  • Field drains should be removed or blocked to allow the soil to return to a more natural state for water retention which assists establishment of local flora and reduces run-off and   associated flood risks downstream.

  • Once the scene is set for the land to truly embrace nature once again, the farmer’s foot would be deployed – an experienced, observant eye over the site, able to monitor returning species and spot any potential invasive species which require control over the long-term.

  • Monitoring and reporting of new species and improvement in soil structure and nutrient levels.

Members are choosing the guardianship programme

because they want to restore our planet

for future generations, acre by acre.

It’s their legacy.

A legacy that they can personally experience the immense wellbeing benefits of today, all the way up from the very tips of their toes to the depths of their soul, ensuring their ongoing sense of purpose whilst imperatively guaranteeing the land continues to be protected for tomorrow and onwards.

It’s not only a logical, down to earth response that our brain can understand, knowing it’s the right thing to do, but it’s also a heartfelt, real, physical and emotional response.

It keeps our feet firmly on the ground, and equally on our toes, enabling us to act, respond and join together to lead the way forward.
